Overview

Nestled in the heart of Harlem at 2 W 125th St, "A Taste of Seafood" offers a compelling ode to traditional Southern seafood and soul food. This takeout-only spot serves a robust menu that showcases beloved dishes like flounder, catfish, and shrimp paired with classic sides such as collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread. The setting is straightforward—clean and efficient—with an open view into the kitchen where you can watch your meal come together. This transparency adds to the trusting, no-frills experience that suits busy locals and seafood enthusiasts on the go.

The restaurant holds a strong reputation for its authentic preparation, particularly when it comes to the catfish and fried whiting. Unlike many places that substitute tilapia, "A Taste of Seafood" stays true to the fish they promise, offering skinless, boneless fillets that make dining easy and enjoyable. This level of honesty extends throughout the menu, reflecting a commitment to quality ingredients and seasoning that values flavor balance over heavy batter. Customers consistently praise the catfish for its perfectly seasoned breading—crispy without being doughy—and the shrimp dishes balanced with ample sides that capture the soul food tradition.

A standout highlight is the seafood soups, especially the salmon soup special. Its creamy texture and rich seafood profile make it rare to find such comfort food in this neighborhood. Even without extensive dine-in amenities, "A Taste of Seafood" attracts repeat visitors eager for quick access to quality, soulful seafood and Southern classics. The takeaway format encourages fast, friendly service, supported by cash-only transactions but conveniently complemented by an on-site ATM.

"A Taste of Seafood" appeals to those craving the warmth of Southern-inspired comfort food crafted with care and authenticity. Whether you're after a hearty fried shrimp dinner with collard greens or a slice of decadent chocolate layer cake, this spot delivers on both taste and tradition. Located on a bustling Harlem street and accessible by public transportation, it’s a neighborhood staple that has thrived for decades by staying true to its roots and its loyal audience.

I picked up an order and asked about the salmon soup special. I was shocked to get a sample. It’s very hard to find good soups in this area. I was actually surprised to see one at Taste of Seafood. This is delicious. It’s creamy. The seafood sits right in your palette. And its $10. I haven’t seen the actual portion size but for the quality - I’m willing to decide to buy once or twice a week. Regardless, I’m coming.

I visited this location in early September 2022. I’m glad they reopened on 125th. Whenever I’m in the mood some fried whiting this is the place to go. They are honest about their whiting fish and not just pass on tilapia as whiting as other seafood restaurants I’ve visited in the past has done. Their whiting fish is also filet as I want to enjoy my food and not have to worry about picking out the bones. This location is not a dine in restaurant. You order you food and go. The sides are also delicious, I’ve had the baked macaroni and cheese, candied yams, collard greens, and corn bread. They have a variety of items on their menu including desserts. The restaurant is cash only. If you don’t happen to have cash on you there is an ATM located inside. The Restaurant is also accessible via public transportation.

I have eaten from the franchise before but never this location. It's a takeout location. The cashier was very pleasant and quick. The location looked clean, and you were able to see your food being cooked in front of your eyes. I took a flyer because I will definitely order from them.

The catfish is the best in the world. I love the way they bread the fish. It doesn’t taste too doughy or or starchy plus it’s seasoned very well. I highly recommend this place for any of your soul food cravings.

This is a pretty good fish spot. I especially liked the location on the east side many moons ago. The food was absolutely amazing. Today, it was alright. Perhaps it's my taste buds of late. Also, like any other food spot, it depends on whose cooking in the back and the day of the week . Nonetheless, I recommend this place-serving fried fish/seafood with an assortment of "soul food"sides. Collards, candied yams, potato salad,Mac&Cheese, etc.. It's nice to see that they're still in business after 3 decades or so. I was a wee bit annoyed about my cake. I ordered coconut & received chocolate. It was good, though

I had the whiting sandwich, which looked delicious, but I was somewhat disappointed because it was not tasty. The tartar sauce and hot sauce gave it the flavor it needed.

The food is excellent and the customer service is good at the 125th location that is close to 5th Ave. I ordered a 3 pice Whiting dinner with Collard Greens and Potato Salad. They give you your money's worth. Their is no table sitting just take out. The also have a catering menu that you can ask for that is right by the cashier.

The only reason I gave 4 stars is because every knows their cornbread is delicious..I came from the bronx because the cornbread isn't a option on uber eats..then I order my delicious food and they put my cornbread in saranwrap instead of foam and my cornbread look smushed..like it had been handled..the others Taste of seafood Don't do this..plz stop smashing & seran wrapping the cornbread ..it's giving cheap. Especially when your buying dinners and a few sides..plz stop
